Signed 'A Markus' (lower right); framed. Good condition. Literature: Gretha Parma. From the series 'Mijn favoriet', NRC 6 & 7 October 2018. Provenance: Private collection; Galerie Mokum Amsterdam, 1990. Notes: Early work, created largely before her famous series of paintings showing women in drapes. This intriguing work, often exhibited on Markus' request, shows the artist and her daughter in a clinic in Dutch Brabant. Gretha Pama citing the owner, a psychotherapist: "The painting is about selfdisclosure as well as about concealing, the central theme in the work of the artist [...] The first impulse is: I wanna do something about this. Which is impossible. But the painting is comforting though [...] It seems to say: it is okay when I'm a little depressed now and then" (NRC 6 October 2018).
