Note:
Korean American artist Kang Ik-joong is renowned for his mosaic-like installations made of 3 x 3-inch (7,62 x 7,62 cm) squares that depict various aspects of his life, from influences to personal notes on topics as wide-ranging as masturbation practices. These pieces include small toys and childhood memorabilia, not from his past but sourced from contemporary Korea, suggesting memories are reconstructed through today’s lens. This blend of past and present gives his work a dynamic energy, highlighting the constant interplay between memory and current experiences.
