Beschrijving
Chromogenic print flush-mounted on dibond behind matte plexiglass, signed 'Erwin Olaf', inscribed 'De La Laboral', titled and dated (on a label on the reverse of the mount). Occasional minor surface abrasions to plexiglass, else in good condition.
Provenance: Private collection; Flatland Gallery, Amsterdam. Notes: The patroness of dentistry, based on Zurbarán's Saint Apollonia from the Louvre. From the series Laboral Escena Gijón. "The ten photographs exhibited at Teatro de Laboral are the result of the work of Dutch Photographer Erwin Olaf's engagement with paintings by Spanish artists including Picasso, El Greco or Zurbarán, which he borrowed as the touchstone for this body of work. [...] The chromaticity on view in the photographs is reminiscent of the paintings, something Erwin Olaf wished to preserve in order to maintain their essence" (Mateo Feijóo, Artistic Director of Teatro de Laboral (2008), from the artist's website).
