Resilience (2023)

Beschrijving

'Siem'23' (on the reverse).

Exhibited:
Palma de Mallorca, Muse Mallorca Exhibition, The Four Elements, 2023.

Notes: The repertoire of Isabelle Siem extends beyond abstract paintings to include mesmerizing wooden sculptures. Her paintings captivate with their vibrant colours, intricate brushstrokes, and play with light and shadow. Meanwhile, her wooden sculptures evoke a sense of organic beauty, crafted with attention to detail. Siem’s work is neither subtle nor straightforward. It wants to immediately catch your eye, yet it will be appreciated better when you take the time to absorb the whole work. Those who pay attention to detail will find a second layer within every work. Not only the colours and shapes but also the used materials convey a feeling or message. Both collectively and individually. As a consequence, not a single one of her works is fully flat. The result is a dialogue between the painter and her canvas, a process during which she contemplates her life experience.

'Resilience' is inspired by the solidity and strength of the earth. This sculpture is made out of round shapes symbolising the planet Earth. The circles also serve as a visual narrative, depicting the circular phases that define the course of existence. Each shape in the installation represents a distinct phase of life, seamlessly flowing from one to the next in an unbroken cycle.
