Note:
Petrus Gerardus Vertin was a nineteenth century etcher, lithographer, painter and watercolourist and part of the movement of the The Hague Romanticists. From 1839 up to 1840 he was trained at the Haagse Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten by B.J. van Hove who also taught Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch and Charles Leickert. Vertin is known for his landscapes and cityscapes, but also painted portraits and church interiors. In his winter landscapes Vertin exhibits a great eye for detail, for example the light reflecting from the snow on the roofs and streets lends a nearly magical atmosphere to his works.
