Notes: The repertoire of Isabelle Siem extends beyond abstract paintings to include mesmerizing wooden sculptures. Her paintings captivate with their vibrant colours, intricate brushstrokes, and play with light and shadow. Meanwhile, her wooden sculptures evoke a sense of organic beauty, crafted with attention to detail. Siem’s work is neither subtle nor straightforward. It wants to immediately catch your eye, yet it will be appreciated better when you take the time to absorb the whole work. Those who pay attention to detail will find a second layer within every work. Not only the colours and shapes but also the used materials convey a feeling or message. Both collectively and individually. As a consequence, not a single one of her works is fully flat. 'Fluidity' captures the element water. The shapes are built out of pigmented wood, aiming to capture the gentle flow of water, with its undulating waves. The piece consists of overlapping pieces that evoke the ebb and flow of existence itself. This piece invites the audience to pause, to reflect, and to surrender themselves to the sublime beauty of water, which has the ability to transport us to a place of calmness.
