The model is the daughter of Dutch wine merchant and art collector Anthony Nolet, Cara Nolet (1908-1993). Depicted as a cunning young women, looking somewhat melancholic, Cara would appear some years later as a novitiate with the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Carolus Borromeus in the monastery "Onder de Bogen" in Maastricht. The photo shows the living room of the family Nolet in Nijmegen with the portrait of Clara and a portrait of Anthony playing the cello - both painted by Sluijters.
